Strangely enough, this was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] salr323's post for fic writers on UK Christmas traditions. (There was an offhand mention of a foxhunt, and then I googled foxhunting, and ended up with this. Sometimes, I just really have no idea.) It's an imagining of young Sherlock, in the style of a slightly cartoonish children's book illustration. I suppose I should rate this PG, for a small dead animal. You've been warned.

This is really nice. Sherlock looks both curious and as if he's feeling something for the fox.

Thank you! I wanted to capture that borderline between childish curiosity and a more adult understanding. I know it's sort of a weird image, but I hope it worked.

Thanks very much.

We have a fox that lives on our housing estate. We always put food out for it during the winter. I don't know if it's the same one every year, but every winter we see one running around. I love it.

I'm reminded simultaneously of Calvin & Hobbes, and Christopher Robin. I think Sherlock is a nice blend of the latter's curiosity and the former's cynicism, so this makes sense in my head.

This is a lovely piece. Will there be more? :D

I love both of those things intensely, so thank you for the lovely compliment! I agree, Sherlock's a bit of a mix between curiosity and world-weary cynicism. Well said.

I hope so! Thanks for leaving such a nice note. ♥

That is absolutely lovely - which you won't often see me say about a picture with a dead fox in it! Little Sherlock's expression is perfect - a little shocked, a little curious. I suspect he's going to know all about foxes - or at least parts of them - by the end of the day.

The shades and lines are wonderful, and you have just enough perfect little details (like the prints in the snow).

Ha! Nor do I often make pictures with dead foxes. Sherlock, as always, is a special case. XD He is definitely about to catalog some data.

Thank you so, so much!

You can tell I've been the big sister to three boys when my absolute first thought upon viewing this was: "somebody get that baby some PANTS!" Hahaha!

But seriously, I really dig your style. I like your lines, and the black/white/grays color scheme; they really work well together. His sweet little face, and the curly hair, and the awesome trees are my favorites!!

Wow, that's so cool. I think Sherlock would be bemused and fascinated by the whole thing - I could see him divising ways to sabotage the hunt, just to irritate his parents. And because he could!

Oh, this is so beautiful! (I saw the detail while skimming the flist and just had to click.) It's a wonderful image in itself, with beautiful lines and negative spaces and a sense of whimsy, but there are echoes of the style of...The Little Prince? Pooh? In any case, there's something very wonderfully nostalgic and familiar about the style that makes this really remarkable. Thank you! M.
