Short fic, just a thought, really; Remus, set in Deathly Hollows- MAJOR SPOILERS OMG, unbelievable huge spoilers. This is really only me feeling sorry for myself.
There's no darkness in them- none at all.
At the instant of his death, Remus is thinking, I was born.
His son is small, with round fingers that splay out as a starfish; translucently pink against the worn flesh of his father's hand. His son has eyes that open.
He's only changed six nappies since the day, only six; Tonks and Andromeda and Ted have done the rest. Her family's good with the baby. They like him. No- it's not like. It's love. They love. They laugh and clap when he gargles the milk and they laugh and clap when he ruins Tonk's blouse; and the little person laughs back, though he lacks the coordination to clap.
His son will live.
Tonks will live. He thinks of her face, her knees, her hair, crowned in glory against the open windows with their child in her arms. There's no darkness in them- none at all. She was born, and she gives birth, and they'll live.
I was born, he thinks. Such a wonder. I was born and she was born and we were made new.
He dies into light.
